A while ago, Lab4Music introduced the Sipario: a type of stand-alone unit able to send, receive and edit MIDI signals. That may not sound extremely spectacular per se, but consider the following scenario. If you have an old MIDI keyboard set up to control a decent number of rack modules and it suddenly gives up the ghost after years of loyal and dedicated service, you'd obviously need a new MIDI keyboard, and it just so happens to be that most of those available today don't come with old-school DIN-MIDI I/O. Sure, you could use a computer and a MIDI interface to run your rack modules now, but that solution isn't as clean or practical as an all-in-one, stand-alone unit. That's where the Lab4Music SiparioX comes in.

The Lab4Music SiparioX: Expanded Connection Potential

Compared to the original Sipario, the SiparioX is mostly more extensive in terms of inputs and outputs, and gives you USB-MIDI, DIN-MIDI-In, three DIN-MIDI-Outs, as well as four jack MIDI inputs and two jack MIDI outputs to accommodate any small and modern devices. In addition, the X-variant of the Sipario features a pitch wheel, which is great if you tend to use a piano-style keyboard lacking a pitch bender as your go-to MIDI source. How thoughtful!

Tweaking MIDI with the SiparioX

Just like with the first Sipario, you're free to tweak MIDI signals without the need for a computer. This means you can route incoming MIDI signals to a MIDI output of your own choosing; re-map velocity settings; introduce splits and layers; transpose; manage sustain and even send out program changes. On top of all of that, a MIDI-clock comes built in so you can sync-up any external arpeggiators or sequencers, and all of your commands are entered via the large touch-screen colour display and any custom settings can be easily stored on a USB stick.
